UConn Extension Hosts Farm Biosecurity Workshop to Help Protect Livestock, Poultry, and Families
Biosecurity is the first line of defense in protecting farms, animals, and communities from the spread of disease. With concerns over avian influenza and other livestock health risks on the rise, UConn Extension is hosting a Farm Biosecurity Workshop to provide practical strategies for farmers, hobbyists, and 4-H families.
These workshops will offer expert guidance on strengthening farm biosecurity measures, whether for a small backyard flock or a large livestock operation. Participants will learn how to develop a biosecurity plan to safeguard the health of their animals and families while minimizing the risk of disease transmission.
Upcoming Workshop Sessions:
- Thursday, March 20, 2025 | 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM
New London County Extension Center
562 New London Turnpike, Norwich, CT - Saturday, March 22, 2025 | 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM
Litchfield County Extension Center

Why Biosecurity Matters
Diseases, including highly pathogenic avian influenza, can spread rapidly, leading to devastating losses for farmers and supply chain disruptions for consumers. Strong biosecurity practices—such as limiting farm visitors, disinfecting equipment, and monitoring animal health—help reduce these risks and keep Connecticut’s agricultural community resilient.
This workshop is open to farmers, 4-H members, hobbyists, and families who want to take proactive steps in protecting their animals. Participants will leave with an actionable biosecurity plan tailored to their operation.
