Meet Matt Syrotiak

Matt SyrotiakMatt Syrotiak ’24 (CAHNR) recently joined our team as the State 4-H Program Coordinator. Matt is from Bethlehem, Connecticut, and brings a wealth of leadership experience in 4-H and FFA to the role. Additionally, Matt is a proud UConn and CAHNR graduate; he earned a bachelor of science in animal science and is completing a secondary degree this spring in agricultural and resource economics. 

What is your area of interest?

I’m interested in helping and supporting youth to find their spark in the fields of agriculture and related sciences through programs like UConn 4-H. I became interested in this thanks to the amazing mentors I had in the 4-H and FFA programs.

What is your role with UConn Extension?

Working to support the State 4-H program including its members, volunteers and educators. I’m also responsible for communication for the UConn 4-H social media profiles and advancement efforts to support future 4-H initiatives.

What excites you the most about working with UConn Extension?

The people, UConn Extension is always looking to help support others and I am really excited to join a team whose mission aligns so much to my own.

What is one thing you hope people will learn from you and your work?

I hope they learn more about the 4-H program, and how even with differences between counties, it engages all its members, volunteers and alumni.

What is your favorite thing to do in Connecticut?

I really enjoy spending time outside; Connecticut is packed with hiking trails and outdoor landscapes that is a great way to disconnect and recharge.

What is the most unusual job you’ve had?

I ran a podcast for UConn Extension, Connecting Connecticut where I highlighted various people and programs for UConn.

What are some of your hobbies and other interests?

Working on my family farm, Cabin Acres Farms where we raise dairy goats, making goat cheeses, soaps and lotions.
