UConn Extension’s Solid Ground Program is now accepting applications for our new training “The Business of Farming.”
What is it?
This course will accommodate 15-18 participants for a 7-week learning opportunity that includes both virtual and in-person meetings (details below). It is designed to develop and strengthen the business and technical skills for beginning farmers with 0 – 3 years of experience. Historically underserved beginning farmers are encouraged to apply.
Participate in a learning experience with farmer peers and develop new networks along the way. You are welcomed to a safe space and environment to foster informal interactions, knowledge, comradery and relationship building. As we enter the winter months in agriculture, this is an important time to acquire some of the fundamental skills in farm business management, such as completing your business plan, creating farm business record-keeping, tax filing, and grant writing.
Please only apply if you can commit to attending all seven training sessions (both virtual and in-person) that take place on Fridays from January 19th – March 1st.

When: Online and 2 in-person, 7 modules in total. Course running weekly from Jan 19th – Mar 1st,
IN PERSON Modules- Fridays, January 26th and March 1st – 9am-1pm at Tolland Agricultural Center (24 Hyde Rd. Vernon, CT)
Cost: $60 ($30 reimbursed upon completion by April 1st)
About the Cohort/Group Course: This first course requires an application to enroll and is open to beginning farmers with 0 – 3 years of experience. Our program is also designed to improve access to Historically Underserved Farmers. All applications are welcome!
