The Connecticut 4-H youth program prepares youth to meet the needs of a global economy, while learning new skills, meeting new friends and discovering new things about themselves and the world through UConn Extension’s research-driven programs.

Whatever your interest, 4-H has a place for you. 4-H programs offer youth fun, hands-on learning activities that foster skills and character development in science, citizenship and healthy living.

Most think 4-H is over at 18, unless you want to become a 4-H volunteer, but most assume you have to be way older in order to be. UConn’s collegiate 4-H Club is the perfect fit to bridge the gap. Many colleges and universities have collegiate 4-H clubs. Collegiate 4-H is an organization that provides its members with a sense of identity on the UConn campus, enriches their lives through group projects and recreation, and develops confidence and leadership skills. Clubs provide service and support to their local and state 4-H programs, such as serving as judges and conducting training workshops. They are also a service and social group for campus students.  UConn’s collegiate 4-H Club is a great way to extend your 4-H career or possibly begin one. This club is a great way to get involved in the 4-H community as well as the UConn community. As Collegiate 4-Her’s, we feel that it is important giving back to something that gave us so much. We meet once per month in the George White Library on the Storrs campus. We attended our first National Collegiate 4-H Conference in State College, Pennsylvania in March of 2014, and we are very excited to attend next year’s conference in Florida with hopes of improving our club even more. We also are volunteering at the Windham County 4-H Skill-a-thon on April 12th, presenting our club workshop: “Are You Smarter than Collegiate 4-H?” This will be a jeopardy-like game testing 4-H youth on their general livestock knowledge as well as 4-H facts.
