UConn Extension strengthens Connecticut’s workforce by providing training and certification programs that prepare individuals for careers in agriculture, food systems, health, natural resources, and community development. Training and Certification Opportunities

    Extension’s workforce development programs cover a wide range of industries and professional needs, including:

    • Pesticide Safety and Certification – Training and exam preparation for agricultural producers, landscapers, and green industry professionals.
    • Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) TrainingSeafood and meat and poultry HACCP courses designed for food producers and processors to meet federal food safety requirements.
    • Greenhouse and Nursery Trainings – Online and in-person courses on plant production, pest management, and best practices for greenhouse employees.
    • Vegetable Growers’ Short Course – Annual training for commercial growers on crop production, pest management, and market trends.
    • Land Use Academy – Education for local land use officials on planning, zoning, and environmental issues to support sustainable community development.
    • Foundations of Shellfish Farming – A course for beginning and prospective aquaculture farmers covering production methods, permitting, and business planning.
    • 4-H Career Readiness Programs – Workforce skills development for youth, including leadership, entrepreneurship, and STEM training.
    • Dairy and Livestock Programs – Industry-specific trainings that strengthen technical skills and support Connecticut’s agricultural workforce.
